Certain individuals in the Bible suffered loneliness for different reasons but collectively their experiences offer us important practical ways of dealing with the problem. Most of the people who suffer from loneliness can’t understand why they try very hard to keep relationships but almost always find them fizzling away. These are people who aren’t asking for money or fame but just someone to care enough to call and check on them, be happy for them when they achieve their goals, whisper a kind word when they need a little encouragement and hug them when they are down. In my walk with the Lord I have come to the conclusion that there are times we just wont understand, eventually it will work together for our good. Ana became a widow at a very early age and had to deal with loneliness for the better part of her life.
She chose not to allow the problem to rule her mind, rather she concentrated on building an intimate relationship with God through prayers and fasting. She would come into his presence daily and at every opportunity. She pursued after a more reliable relationship understanding that she could find a better friend in God than she would find in any man. She entered his courts with praise and his gates with thanksgiving so as to put on a garment of praise in place of the spirit of heaviness. By so doing, Ana paralyzed the grip of loneliness. By the last song, she would find herself completely wrapped in the Lord’s embrace, and her need for human dependency whisked away by ever sigh. It worked every time and eventually she became acquainted with the Lord in ways many of us can only dream off. Next time loneliness tries to invade your mind cease the opportunity to build up your relationship with God. It works every time.
